HSS Hand Taps are manufactured from a high quality molybdenum
steel and are designed to cut threads in a wide variety of
metals. Tap sizes is indicated by two numbers. First number
indicates the diameter of the screw or bolt and the second number
indicates the number of threads per inch. (In metric taps the
second number indicates the distance between each thread
expressed in millimeters). The three types of chamfers available
in hand taps are:
Taper: 8 to 10 threads chamfered for easy thread starting
in tough materials.
Plug: 3 to 5 threads chamfered for general use when
tapping to bottom is not required (This is the most widely used
type of tap).
Bottoming: 1-1/2 threads chamfered for use after threads
have been started to the bottom of the hole. ( Fractional Sizes:
1/4" to 1" in UNC/UNF / Machine Screw Sizes: # 0 to #12
UNC/UNF) . Use the following table to choose the right drill bit

Our Screw Extractors are manufactured from a high quality tool steel and are design to remove broken screws, studs, pipe fittings, etc., without damaging the threads.
